Drug testing should be done

With employees doing drugs and coming to work is not acceptable by any means, even if they do their job properly without any error. The fact of the matter is that if the employee came into work without taking any drugs they would perform better. Sure I have heard some people say that they can not perform properly without a coffee or their morning breakfast and the drug addicts say the same thing, but they can though it will just take a while to rehab and be able to work normally.

I agree that there are some jobs that can't possibly be performed under the influence of drugs such as driving a big rig or working on a constructions site, but then the degree of influence that people are under does vary. I believe that there are certain jobs that can be performed under low level of drug influence and it would effect your performance significantly. Furthermore, when discussing this issue people have a tendency to only discriminate against the use of illigal drugs, but what if you take pain killers or some other form of medication that may influence your behavior at work that would be overlooked ( trust me taking Night Quil before going to work does not help at all, you feel really sleepy).

I agree on the argument on prescription medication. These drugs are the fastest growing problem in America. I do not condone the use of drugs but if you took a look around your workplace, I highly doubt that you can definitively pick out the people who are using the drugs. Illicit drugs and prescribed drugs often can have the same effects as each other. But drug testing usually throws out positive results for Rx drugs. How do we compensate for this discrepancy. Should employers be the ones policing their employees? And will there be backlash due to the potential invasion of privacy.
